Acts 8: Saul Ravages the Church And Saul approved of his execution. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. 2 Devout men buried Stephen and made great lamentation over him. 3 But Saul was ravaging the church, and entering house after house, he dragged off men and women and committed them to prison.
Philip Proclaims Christ in Samaria
4 Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word. 5 Philip went down to the city[a] of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ.6 And the crowds with one accord paid attention to what was being said by Philip, when they heard him and saw the signs that he did. 7 For unclean spirits, crying out with a loud voice, came out of many who had them, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. 8 So there was much joy in that city.
Simon the Magician Believes
9 But there was a man named Simon, who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, saying that he himself was somebody great. 10 They all paid attention to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the power of God that is called Great.”11 And they paid attention to him because for a long time he had amazed them with his magic. 12 But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Even Simon himself believed, and after being baptized he continued with Philip. And seeing signs and great miracles[b] performed, he was amazed.
14 Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, 15 who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16 for he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit. 18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money,19 saying, “Give me this power also, so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” 20 But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! 21 You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. 22 Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you. 23 For I see that you are in the gall[c] of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity.” 24 And Simon answered, “Pray for me to the Lord, that nothing of what you have said may come upon me.”
25 Now when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.
Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch
26 Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south[d] to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place. 27 And he rose and went. And there was an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure. He had come to Jerusalem to worship 28 and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah. 29 And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.” 30 So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.32 Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this:
“Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter
and like a lamb before its shearer is silent,
so he opens not his mouth.
33 In his humiliation justice was denied him.
Who can describe his generation?
For his life is taken away from the earth.”
34 And the eunuch said to Philip, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?” 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus. 36 And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?”[e] 38 And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. 39 And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.
Acts 9: The Conversion of Saul But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. 3 Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him. 4 And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” 5 And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 6 But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.” 7 The men who were traveling with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but seeing no one. 8 Saul rose from the ground, and although his eyes were opened, he saw nothing. So they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. 9 And for three days he was without sight, and neither ate nor drank.
10 Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” And he said, “Here I am, Lord.” 11 And the Lord said to him, “Rise and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul, for behold, he is praying,12 and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him so that he might regain his sight.” 13 But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done to your saints at Jerusalem. 14 And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name.” 15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. 16 For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.” 17 So Ananias departed and entered the house. And laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road by which you came has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he rose and was baptized; 19 and taking food, he was strengthened.
Saul Proclaims Jesus in Synagogues
For some days he was with the disciples at Damascus. 20 And immediately he proclaimed Jesus in the synagogues, saying, “He is the Son of God.” 21 And all who heard him were amazed and said, “Is not this the man who made havoc in Jerusalem of those who called upon this name? And has he not come here for this purpose, to bring them bound before the chief priests?” 22 But Saul increased all the more in strength, and confounded the Jews who lived in Damascus by proving that Jesus was the Christ.
Saul Escapes from Damascus
23 When many days had passed, the Jews[a] plotted to kill him, 24 but their plot became known to Saul. They were watching the gates day and night in order to kill him, 25 but his disciples took him by night and let him down through an opening in the wall,[b] lowering him in a basket.
Saul in Jerusalem
26 And when he had come to Jerusalem, he attempted to join the disciples. And they were all afraid of him, for they did not believe that he was a disciple. 27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles and declared to them how on the road he had seen the Lord, who spoke to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus. 28 So he went in and out among them at Jerusalem, preaching boldly in the name of the Lord. 29 And he spoke and disputed against the Hellenists.[c] But they were seeking to kill him. 30 And when the brothers learned this, they brought him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.
31 So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.
The Healing of Aeneas
32 Now as Peter went here and there among them all, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda. 33 There he found a man named Aeneas, bedridden for eight years, who was paralyzed. 34 And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; rise and make your bed.” And immediately he rose. 35 And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.
Dorcas Restored to Life
36 Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas.[d] She was full of good works and acts of charity. 37 In those days she became ill and died, and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. 38 Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, urging him, “Please come to us without delay.” 39 So Peter rose and went with them. And when he arrived, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping and showing tunics[e] and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them. 40 But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up.41 And he gave her his hand and raised her up. Then, calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive. 42 And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord. 43 And he stayed in Joppa for many days with one Simon, a tanner.
August 31, 2026. Wow Lord, here we are in another town in the Dominican Republic called Higuey, it is amazing how you have had me, Holy Spirit in more than 100 places in the time you have called me to leave everything and answer the Great Commission. I was crying as it took this time, for almost 17 years to understand my identity in you which is found in Ephesians 1:3-13, 1 Peter 2:9-10 and Romans 8. To not worry about what any principality or anyone thinks, to understand who I am in you, what you called me to do and not to take anything personal, or have to defend my self. It has been thru your Holy Spirit and the reading of your Bible, plus all that has been lived through these years in the Great Commission, that has anchored the my identity in you.
Yesterday I started hearing Higuey, as I thought that we were going to spend some time in La Romana, Dominican Republic, as so much had happened with the Great Commission there for the second time, since last year, personally and spiritually, which is all one, we are in a spiritual realm, everything is spiritual, if someone does not have a relationship with you Lord, Holy Spirit they have a relationship with the demons, plus we read that in Ephesians 6:10-19. It’s all in the Bible, that is our manual. The day started yesterday with the reading of the Bible in Matthew 19, reflecting on all that had happened, ending a two day fast, being delivered from all that had come at me thru the individuals that were possessed by those principalities, with spitting something black, that was coming out of me and two sisters in Christ who needed to be activated by the Holy Spirit, with me hearing to ask them to pray for me in different locations, where the Holy Spirit sent me.
Thanking the Lord for HIS faithfulness, as we read in 1 Corinthians 10: 12 If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. 13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. Then I heard to start getting ready as the check out had to be done before 11am, here in the hotel in the center of town, there were no offerings sent that had been asked with the leading of the Holy Spirit, and I had like 2 dollars left in the account. I tried to get a taxi but the amount was too close to the fee. I then heard from the Holy Spirit, as to whom to ask, and a few people answered, for a total of $130 dollars, which covered the expenses of the day and 2 nights in the place the Holy Spirit placed me at the end of the day in Higuey.
Before getting to the place, the Holy Spirit had me in a plaza in La Romana, Dominican Republic sharing the Good News of Jesus person to person, anointing and doing the prayer of salvation or whatever the Holy Spirit led me to share. People were encouraged, I was prayed for and then I heard to take the taxi to the bus station that would leave at 6pm. The first taxi driver in the app canceled after receiving the Good News of Jesus that was sent to him through the app, plus he wanted me to pay him $300 Dominican pesos more that the fee from the app, in cash, which I was honest that I did not have. Then another person answered and it was for him to come with his wife, receive what the Holy Spirit had for them, as well as the discipleship page, with also being led to pray for them, they were thankful and, as always I tell people to give all the glory to the king of kings Lord of Lords, who has let me understand this thru 1 Corinthians 1:26-31.
1 Corinthians 1: 26 For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards,[a] not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being[b] might boast in the presence of God. 30 And because of him[c] you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
Ephesians 1: Spiritual Blessings in Christ
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us[b] for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known[c]to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ[d] 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Christ, things in heaven and things on earth in him.
11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
1 Peter 2: 9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
When going to the plaza the Holy Spirit was sending me to, to be in the Plaza in La Romana, the taxi dropped me off not too close to the place, as he wanted me to pay him more than what the app was saying, he was asking for $300 Dominican Pesos, but the Good News of Jesus had been given to him and I was led to tell him to seek Jesus that because of greed and evil it was that people were ending in hell, that had never come out of my mouth, but it did, then the Holy Spirit sent a man who said he was a Christian on a motorcycle to help me cross the street on the motorcycle and I was led to anoint him with the Holy Spirit, which is possibly why the Holy Spirit allowed for that to happen, he was very thankful and I went in.
When being dropped off in the bus station by the park in La Romana, Dominican Republic the attendant of the bus said they only took cash to which I heard ask, I started asking people who tried to also bank transfer and they said they did not take that either. I started praying and heard to ask a man that was on his scooter and he told me to call the attendant so he could pay him and he paid the $200 Dominican pesos for the 45 minute ride to Higuey. I thanked him and gave him the Good News of Jesus, as he was helping one of the Lord’s Apostles get to where HE was sending me, no one can stop the Lord, the Good News of Jesus was given to him, as well as at the moment of getting on the bus and while in the bus with the paper, which people like and keep as it is John 14:6, Romans 10:1-13, John 3 and Matthew 3, with the link to the teaching and testimony page, called Less-of-me-more-of-you.com which is this page the Holy Spirit asked to be created in the midst of the Covid-19, which is being used all over the world as HE said for discipleship. I can not see the people that come in the page, but I could see the nations, all for the souls in the Great Commission.
When arriving to the plaza where I heard to get off to do the Great Commission, as soon as I walked in I was led to say the Good News of Jesus in the food court area out loud, people clapped and were thankful, I don’t know if it is because this town is known for Idolatry, as they have one of the churches where people come to sacrifice by getting there on their knees, everything is charged and it is a horrible looking place spiritually and physically, with a very black “virgin” in the center of it, which is a demon, as we read in 1 Corinthians 10, as as while ago the Holy Spirit had sent me there specifically to pray and share the Good News of Jesus, either way I pointed up to the heavens and told them to thank the Lord, Jesus, Holy Spirit as he was the one who sent me, as he loves them and does not want anyone to perish, but have eternal life.
Then I kept walking to take the suitcase to the customer service, as heard and on the way I was led to tell a young man that Jesus loves him and he ask for the message in a paper, we spoke, he gave me $100 pesos in cash to get a water, then I was led to do the prayer of salvation and anoint him with the Holy Spirit, he was thankful and again I was led to tell him to thank the Lord, Jesus, Holy Spirit, as HE is the one who sent me. In the customer service area of the all included supermarket area the Good News of Jesus was given, as led by the Holy Spirit, out loud and with the paper. A security person who said he was a “christian” asked where my suitcase was. I told him in customer service as I was doing the Great Commission to which he shared that I could not do in the plaza, to which I was led to tell him that he answers to his boss and I answer to mine. I was led to another sister in Christ who was met at the food court in the plaza who needed to be anointed by the Holy Spirit, to pray for him to be like Saul that became Paul after being anointed with the Holy Spirit by Ananias in Acts 8-9. In the supermarket area was a man that had been met not too long ago while the Holy Spirit had me in Santo Domingo, in the Colonial zone, his wife had been in chains as she was very possessed with the help of her mother who was very possessed by a demon called Bacaa, which knowingly or unknowingly people surrender their kids at birth, as revealed by the Holy Spirit, with also tying a red band on their writs and or an amulet for what they believe is protection and is actually demons that they are either tying or giving their child to.
The man was very excited to see me, shared that his wife was home and delivered as the Holy Spirit had told me HE would do, gave me his number, sent me $500 Dominican Pesos with the Dominican bank account information, which $100 Pesos was for the food shopping, and the rest for the taxi to get to the place the Holy Spirit had pointed. I was led to get a white t-shirt, as the one I was wearing had tared and the fabric was not a summer fabric, as it is extremely hot, but the Holy Spirit gives ways to stay hydrated, as he also had people get me juice and I was lead by the Holy Spirit with what was had to leave for the taxi; bread, ham, cheese, mayo, apple juice, bar of soap to wash the clothe by hand, mineral water and chips. Then I was led to get the studio, which is a room with a sofa bed, a bathroom, with a table in the renting app I heard from the Holy Spirit to get, which was covered for two nights, out of the 7, I heard that I will be in Higuey doing the Great Commission.
When the taxi was called the man started talking about his testimony and was explained some things, as the Holy Spirit led and then by the end of the trip, when arriving to the place; I was led to do the prayer of salvation with him, and anointing him with the Holy Spirit, like Ananias was led by the Holy Spirit to do with Saul, who became Paul. When I got off the Good News of Jesus was given by word to the husband of the owner, then to the owner online and in person with a prayer. I was led to wash the dirty clothes by hand, with a bar of jabon de cuava, which was bought earlier, hanging them to dry in the closet and in the bathroom rods. Then I was led to eat a sandwich with some of the apple juice that had been bought earlier with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, take a shower, share the testimony with people as led by the Holy Spirit. Today woke up, read and listened to Matthew 20, putting on the full armor, anointing the place with the Holy Spirit, making a sandwich, with the apple juice, surrendering and crying out to the Lord for the money for the meals that are to come, such as lunch and dinner, reflecting on the confidence I now feel with HIS Holy Spirit’s identity and was led to ask the female owner to please wash the coffee maker which she did, she comes in very rushy, such as people who are doing things out of the Lord’s will and do not want to be found out, but the messages as I receive them are told. I was led to tell her if she has some lunch left if she could give me some to which she stuttered and said let’s see what happens as she is ordering out today. Giving and receiving are understood with the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit has me asking ALL THE TIME, with different reactions. All for the souls in the Great Commission. I heard to stay in, and will see what happens later, in Jesus name. I received a video call from one of the disciples that had risen in Tanzania, Africa and he was so filled with the Holy Spirit, and I was so encouraged, in Jesus name. Glory to the king of kings and Lord of Lord, Jesus, Holy Spirit.
The woman owner did not respond about the lunch and it was now 2:35pm, which I was led to tell her: Blessings, no worries about the food, I made a sandwich, blessings in Jesus name. Only you know, Lord, why there was a prompting to ask her. Also the couple has not answered and someone was led to send $75 dollars to the USA account, what is that money for? I hear: Stay, but that is only good for one night? Do I reserve now or at the end of the day? Now?Well it turns out that it is $79 and there is $76, so I have to wait. Ok. So we are eating sandwiches for today? Ok. It’s pretty good, the cheese, ham, mayo, bread and apple juice. Thank you Jesus. Psalms 37:25 was also led to be shared with the woman owner here as well as the link to the teaching and testimony page, with the testimony of the podcast called: A whole community for his purpose, where the testimony of how the Holy Spirit moved in Las Galeras in Samana, Dominican Republic, back in 2022, when the Holy Spirit had me there for a few men and women who worked at the beach. Another night was paid as heard, then food, Sancocho with white rice was ordered to eat, with the owner sharing how she did not see the reservation request, as someone was interested for tomorrow, but the reservation was still approved, to which I heard that no matter what anyone thinks or feels that the Holy Spirit will have me be where HE needs me to be. Now the Holy Spirit will lead as to who to ask or will move people for the rest of the nights here, as well as the items needed for daily survival, in Jesus name. The woman owner said the check out will be on Tuesday at 10am, when the place is paid till Wednesday, at 11am, she really wants me out I hear, Jesus, Holy Spirit, no weapon formed against your Great Commission will prosper in Jesus name. I hear witchcraft with her, which is something that came up with her this morning of why the Holy Spirit is affecting the electricity and water in some places, because of the witchcraft and evil, in hopes that people repent and come to HIM, that is why HE is also sending HIS people so that who ever is meant to understand understands, accomplishes the purpose the Lord has with them and is saved when HE comes back to get HIS people. One of the disciples that rose in Tanzania, Africa when the Lord had me this past June called me in a video call and it was so encouraging to see how the Holy Spirit has filled him up and is moving through him, in Jesus name.
I was led to take a nap, after ordering some items such as capuchino in powder, as there is an electrical coffee maker where water could be heated up, coconut milk, a small yogurt in a cup, a lemon juice, which is always good to have, specially when eating out or ordering as is the case here, as there is not a kitchen here, all for the souls in the Great Commission. Waiting for the delivery now, each delivery has received the Good News of Jesus in person and through the messaging in the app. Every time in all occasions the Holy Spirit has me share the Good News of Jesus, no matter the response. The light flickers a lot here, usually that means there is a lot of spiritual movement in this place and area, may the Lord’s kingdom come and will be done in Jesus name. I heard where to go tomorrow in the area to bring the Good News of Jesus and when leaving this place I heard to dust off my feet as we read in Matthew 10: 14 If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message, shake its dust from your feet as you leave. 15 I tell you the truth, the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah will be better off than such a town on the judgment day. Then at the end of the day, around 9pm a man that was met in La Romana, the town the Lord had me before this one for 5 days, who the Lord used to give me a word, who then tried to sleep with me, as he said we were going to get married, the first night we met, after he and another person transported me to where the Holy Spirit told me to go, whom I told that I needed to hear the same and I had not, the only thing I felt was the enemy on my left arm, other than the first time he prayed in the car with the other man who the Holy Spirit told me had received teachings from the teachers of the law, who was convicted to tell me the “truth” about M, whom I was waiting for and never came down. The Holy Spirit conformed that M did not come down because he had been convicted and exposed for who he really was in a conversation we have had before, thank you Jesus, Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit will let us know what HE needs us to know thru anyone, even if they are demon possessed or teachers of the law, or pharisee and sadducees, which we read about them and are here in Matthew 23, who persecuted the LORD when HE was here and do the same with us from time to time, such as this man that called me to question my call, because according to him I do not have a specific covering, that these past 17 years I have been doing my own thing without a pastor or a “church”, demon possessed and teacher of the law, but he is of salvation and now the Holy Spirit will have an encounter with him that started thru me, that is why the Lord allows for things to happen and before the call the Holy Spirit had put a teaching about this, Jesus, Holy Spirit. I heard from the Holy Spirit to listen to Matthew 23 over and over, to let go of the man, as my part with the Holy Spirit in the man’s life was done, now it’s between him and the Holy Spirit, and now the Lord’s kingdom will come and HIS will will be done in Jesus name. Jesus there were so many victories today with those who did receive what you had for them, which were the two delivery drivers, but we get to share in your suffering for the souls and we get to live everything you and those who came before us lived, that is why is so important to read and absorb the Bible, as it was inspired by you, as we read in 2 Timothy 3:16-17. Lord help me endure till the end to hear good and faithful servant, which you have told me in life. The teachers of the law because of the lack of Holy Spirit forget about Saul who the Lord made to be Paul, as we read in Acts 8 and 9, who depended and was fully directed by the Holy Spirit. The doctrine of the teachers of the law want people to be members, not disciples of Jesus, Holy Spirit, so that they can get what ever they want out of people, keep them coming to their gathering so that they can feel good about the number of members in their “churches”. Read Matthew 23 to learn more about them. Praying that your kingdom comes and will is always done, in Jesus name.
I sent a couple of voice messages to the demon possessed teacher of the law who has been questioning as they always do because of the lack of Holy Spirit my identity in Christ, to which I was led to send a few scriptures and messages in Jesus name. Matthew 23: Seven Woes to the Scribes and Pharisees Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat, 3 so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice.4 They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear,[a] and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. 5 They do all their deeds to be seen by others. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, 6 and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues 7 and greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbi[b] by others. 8 But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers.[c] 9 And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. 10 Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ. 11 The greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
13 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.[d] 15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell[e] as yourselves.
16 “Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ 17 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred? 18 And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gift that is on the altar, he is bound by his oath.’ 19 You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? 20 So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. 21 And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and by him who dwells in it. 22 And whoever swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who sits upon it.
23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. 24 You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel!
25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. 26 You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean.
27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness. 28 So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
29 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous,30 saying, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ 31 Thus you witness against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. 32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers. 33 You serpents, you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell?34 Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town, 35 so that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah,[f] whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. 36 Truly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.
Lament over Jerusalem
37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! 38 See, your house is left to you desolate. 39 For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
