Lust or Love…

June 4, 2026. One of the many things that the enemy and the powers that descended with him (as we learn from the Book of Enoch, available as a PDF or app) have distorted is Love. From the beginning of time, the work of Satan and his recruits has been to distort everything that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit say and create. But where sin abounds, the Lord’s grace abounds all the more, and He makes sure that those who need to understand, understand. One of the things the enemy uses is pornography (pornography is considered sin. It is defined through the biblical concept of porneia (sexual immorality) and “lust.” The Christian faith teaches that viewing pornography damages spiritual purity by objectifying people and violates the sacred purpose of sex, which was designed exclusively within marriage), which distorts relationships and creates an illusion of reality. Also, lust, which is desiring something or someone that should never be ours. The sexual immorality we read about in Leviticus 18 and Leviticus 19. But if we repent and proclaim Jesus as our God and Savior, are baptized by immersion in water, and surrender to Him every day, He fills us with His Holy Spirit, which the Bible gave us to instruct, correct, and prepare us for God’s work.

Before reading any chapter or passage of the Bible, we should always ask the Holy Spirit to help us understand what He wants us to understand and to put into action in the name of Jesus, since the Bible was inspired by God, the Holy Spirit, and His teachings can only be understood through Him, not through natural means. As we read in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 and 1 Corinthians 2:14.

Leviticus 18: Forbidden Sexual Practices

18 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. I am the Lord your God. So do not act like the people in Egypt, where you used to live, or like the people of Canaan, where I am taking you. You must not imitate their way of life. You must obey all my regulations and be careful to obey my decrees, for I am the Lord your God. If you obey my decrees and my regulations, you will find life through them. I am the Lord.

“You must never have sexual relations with a close relative, for I am the Lord.

“Do not violate your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; you must not have sexual relations with her.

“Do not have sexual relations with any of your father’s wives, for this would violate your father.

“Do not have sexual relations with your sister or half sister, whether she is your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether she was born into your household or someone else’s.

10 “Do not have sexual relations with your granddaughter, whether she is your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, for this would violate yourself.

11 “Do not have sexual relations with your stepsister, the daughter of any of your father’s wives, for she is your sister.

12 “Do not have sexual relations with your father’s sister, for she is your father’s close relative.

13 “Do not have sexual relations with your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s close relative.

14 “Do not violate your uncle, your father’s brother, by having sexual relations with his wife, for she is your aunt.

15 “Do not have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law; she is your son’s wife, so you must not have sexual relations with her.

16 “Do not have sexual relations with your brother’s wife, for this would violate your brother.

17 “Do not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. And do not take[a] her granddaughter, whether her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter, and have sexual relations with her. They are close relatives, and this would be a wicked act.

18 “While your wife is living, do not marry her sister and have sexual relations with her, for they would be rivals.

19 “Do not have sexual relations with a woman during her period of menstrual impurity.

20 “Do not defile yourself by having sexual intercourse with your neighbor’s wife.

21 “Do not permit any of your children to be offered as a sacrifice to Molech, for you must not bring shame on the name of your God. I am the Lord.

22 “Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin.

23 “A man must not defile himself by having sex with an animal. And a woman must not offer herself to a male animal to have intercourse with it. This is a perverse act.

24 “Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, for the people I am driving out before you have defiled themselves in all these ways.25 Because the entire land has become defiled, I am punishing the people who live there. I will cause the land to vomit them out. 26 You must obey all my decrees and regulations. You must not commit any of these detestable sins. This applies both to native-born Israelites and to the foreigners living among you.

27 “All these detestable activities are practiced by the people of the land where I am taking you, and this is how the land has become defiled. 28 So do not defile the land and give it a reason to vomit you out, as it will vomit out the people who live there now. 29 Whoever commits any of these detestable sins will be cut off from the community of Israel. 30 So obey my instructions, and do not defile yourselves by committing any of these detestable practices that were committed by the people who lived in the land before you. I am the Lord your God.”

Leviticus 19: Holiness in Personal Conduct

19 The Lord also said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the entire community of Israel. You must be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.

“Each of you must show great respect for your mother and father, and you must always observe my Sabbath days of rest. I am the Lord your God.

“Do not put your trust in idols or make metal images of gods for yourselves. I am the Lord your God.

“When you sacrifice a peace offering to the Lord, offer it properly so you[a] will be accepted by God. The sacrifice must be eaten on the same day you offer it or on the next day. Whatever is left over until the third day must be completely burned up. If any of the sacrifice is eaten on the third day, it will be contaminated, and I will not accept it. Anyone who eats it on the third day will be punished for defiling what is holy to the Lord and will be cut off from the community.

“When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop. 10 It is the same with your grape crop—do not strip every last bunch of grapes from the vines, and do not pick up the grapes that fall to the ground. Leave them for the poor and the foreigners living among you. I am the Lord your God.

11 “Do not steal.

“Do not deceive or cheat one another.

12 “Do not bring shame on the name of your God by using it to swear falsely. I am the Lord.

13 “Do not defraud or rob your neighbor.

“Do not make your hired workers wait until the next day to receive their pay.

14 “Do not insult the deaf or cause the blind to stumble. You must fear your God; I am the Lord.

15 “Do not twist justice in legal matters by favoring the poor or being partial to the rich and powerful. Always judge people fairly.

16 “Do not spread slanderous gossip among your people.[b]

“Do not stand idly by when your neighbor’s life is threatened. I am the Lord.

17 “Do not nurse hatred in your heart for any of your relatives.[c] Confront people directly so you will not be held guilty for their sin.

18 “Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against a fellow Israelite, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.

19 “You must obey all my decrees.

“Do not mate two different kinds of animals. Do not plant your field with two different kinds of seed. Do not wear clothing woven from two different kinds of thread.

20 “If a man has sex with a slave girl whose freedom has never been purchased but who is committed to become another man’s wife, he must pay full compensation to her master. But since she is not a free woman, neither the man nor the woman will be put to death. 21 The man, however, must bring a ram as a guilt offering and present it to the Lord at the entrance of the Tabernacle.[d] 22 The priest will then purify him[e] before the Lord with the ram of the guilt offering, and the man’s sin will be forgiven.

23 “When you enter the land and plant fruit trees, leave the fruit unharvested for the first three years and consider it forbidden.[f] Do not eat it. 24 In the fourth year the entire crop must be consecrated to the Lord as a celebration of praise. 25 Finally, in the fifth year you may eat the fruit. If you follow this pattern, your harvest will increase. I am the Lordyour God.

26 “Do not eat meat that has not been drained of its blood.

“Do not practice fortune-telling or witchcraft.

27 “Do not trim off the hair on your temples or trim your beards.

28 “Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the Lord.

29 “Do not defile your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the land will be filled with prostitution and wickedness.

30 “Keep my Sabbath days of rest, and show reverence toward my sanctuary. I am the Lord.

31 “Do not defile yourselves by turning to mediums or to those who consult the spirits of the dead. I am the Lord your God.

32 “Stand up in the presence of the elderly, and show respect for the aged. Fear your God. I am the Lord.

33 “Do not take advantage of foreigners who live among you in your land.34 Treat them like native-born Israelites, and love them as you love yourself. Remember that you were once foreigners living in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.

35 “Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight, or volume. 36 Your scales and weights must be accurate. Your containers for measuring dry materials or liquids must be accurate.[g] I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

37 “You must be careful to keep all of my decrees and regulations by putting them into practice. I am the Lord.”

We, the people of Christ (those who have repented, proclaimed Jesus as their God and Savior, been baptized by immersion in water, and surrendered daily to be filled with the Holy Spirit and sanctified, set apart for God for the Great Commission with its fruits and gifts), are Israel through faith in Christ. The people of Israel are considered God’s “chosen people” to establish a covenant, bear witness to His message, and through whom the Messiah would come.

The main understanding regarding the “people of God” include:

New Testament (The New Israel): With the arrival of Jesus Christ, the concept is reinterpreted. In the letters of the apostle Paul (such as Romans 9 and 11), it is indicated that the true Israel of God is no longer defined solely by bloodline, but by faith.

Old Testament (Literal Israel): God calls Abraham and forms the nation of Israel, establishing a covenant based on the Law and the promise of a land, making them his exclusive possession.

Genesis 13:14 After Lot had gone, the Lord said to Abram, “Look as far as you can go, northward and southward, eastward and westward. 15 I give all the land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants after you as a permanent possession.” 16 And I will give you so many descendants that, like the dust of the earth, it will be impossible to count them!

Holiness means being set apart by God for a divine purpose and living with moral purity. It is based on two aspects: the nature of God and the believer’s lifestyle.

  1. The Holiness of God

In the Bible, holiness describes the absolute perfection, purity, and “otherness” (being completely different from all creation) of the Creator. God is the source of all goodness and is entirely separate from sin.

  1. Holiness in the Believer

This means consecrating oneself exclusively to God every day, surrendering daily to the Holy Spirit, reading His word in the Bible, and reflecting His character in daily life. Being holy does not imply being perfect, but rather living oriented toward the Creator, showing love, righteousness, and transforming earthly behavior.

John 10: Those who heard Jesus use this illustration didn’t understand what he meant, so he explained it to them: “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me[a] were thieves and robbers. But the true sheep did not listen to them. Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved.[b] They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. 10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

1 Corinthians 13: Love Is the Greatest

13 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it;[a] but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages[b] and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! 10 But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless.

11 When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. 12 Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity.[c] All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.

13 Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

Lust is a disordered sexual desire or appetite. Far from being a simple natural attraction, it is considered one of the seven deadly sins because it reduces people to mere objects of personal pleasure and is opposed to true love.

  1. What does the Bible say?

Scriptures in the Bible condemn desire that dishonors the original purpose of sexuality.

Jesus’s command: In the Gospel, Jesus warns that looking at someone with lustful intent is equivalent to committing adultery in one’s heart (Matthew 5:28).

The nature of sin: While healthy attraction is a divine gift within marriage, lust is self-centered. Theologian John Calvin and other reformers describe it as the pursuit of sexual pleasure beyond the limits set by God.

  1. Theological Perspective

The historical origin: Theologians such as Thomas Aquinas and Gregory the Great defined the concept, indicating that it involves unrestrained and limitless indulgence (derived from the Latin luxuria, which also meant excess or extravagance).

Concupiscence: This relates to the fallen human tendency (after original sin) toward unrestrained carnal pleasures.

Lust of the Heart: Jesus taught in Matthew 5:28 that sexual sin is not limited to the physical act, but begins with the gaze and thoughts. Looking at someone with lust or lustful desire is equivalent to adultery in the heart.

The Design of Sex: Scripture maintains that sexual intimacy is an expression of union between a man and a woman within marriage (Genesis 2:24). Pornography takes sex out of this context, turning it into a selfish and purely physical act.

Sexual Immorality (Porneia): The Greek word porneia is translated in the Bible as sexual immorality. It encompasses any sexual practice outside of God’s design, including the consumption of recorded sexual acts and visual lust.

Purity and Holiness: Christian doctrine urges believers to guard their minds and flee from impurity, promoting holiness, respect, and self-control instead.

A Perspective of Help and Restoration: Beyond condemning the act, the Christian message emphasizes grace, repentance, and deliverance. It teaches that pornography addiction can be overcome through repentance with Jesus, spiritual growth, prayer, and Bible reading.

  1. Love vs. Lust

These two concepts are diametrically opposed:

Love: It implies self-control, patience, care for the well-being of the other, and a selfless commitment. It is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, when a person repents, proclaims Jesus as their God and Savior, and is baptized by immersion in water, surrendering daily and being filled with the Holy Spirit, to be part of the Great Commission.

Lust: It is selfish; it seeks to satisfy an immediate need regardless of the emotional or spiritual impact on the other person. Read Galatians 5. Before reading the word in the Bible, always pray that the Holy Spirit will help you understand what you need to understand and put into practice, in the name of Jesus.

Matthew 5: 28 But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Galatians 5: 19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.

John 14: Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

Romans 10: Salvation Is for Everyone

For Moses writes that the law’s way of making a person right with God requires obedience to all of its commands.[c] But faith’s way of getting right with God says, “Don’t say in your heart, ‘Who will go up to heaven?’ (to bring Christ down to earth). And don’t say, ‘Who will go down to the place of the dead?’ (to bring Christ back to life again).” In fact, it says,

“The message is very close at hand;
it is on your lips and in your heart.”[d]

And that message is the very message about faith that we preach: If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”[e] 12 Jew and Gentile[f] are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”[g]

14 But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? 15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”[h]

16 But not everyone welcomes the Good News, for Isaiah the prophet said, “Lord, who has believed our message?”[i] 17 So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ. 18 But I ask, have the people of Israel actually heard the message? Yes, they have:

“The message has gone throughout the earth,
and the words to all the world.”[j]

19 But I ask, did the people of Israel really understand? Yes, they did, for even in the time of Moses, God said,

“I will rouse your jealousy through people who are not even a nation.
I will provoke your anger through the foolish Gentiles.”[k]

20 And later Isaiah spoke boldly for God, saying,

“I was found by people who were not looking for me.
I showed myself to those who were not asking for me.”[l]

21 But regarding Israel, God said,

“All day long I opened my arms to them,
but they were disobedient and rebellious.”
