1 Samuel 15: 22 Samuel said, “Is the Lord pleased as much with burnt gifts as He is when He is obeyed? See, it is better to obey than to give gifts. It is better to listen than to give the fat of rams.

Barahona, also known as Santa Cruz de Barahona, is the main city of the Barahona Province, in the southwest of the Dominican Republic. It has one of the most active ports in the region, as well as many ecotourism attractions. The city is a centre of sugar production and industry. Barahona is also known for being the only place where the rare Larimar stone can be found.

History

Before its discovery by Europeans, the area belonged to the Native Taino chiefdom of Jaragua, ruled by Bohechío. The current name of the province and city is derived from the surname of the first Spaniards who came to the area, some of these Spaniards were also from the town of Baraona in Spain and named it in honor of their town of origin. The Spaniards spread throughout the territory and designated places with their names. Francisco de Barahona, Gabriel Barahona, Luis de Barahona and Juan de Barahona arrived on the first and second voyages of Christopher Columbus in the 1490s. [4][5]

After the nation’s independence in 1844, Barahona was a military post of the Azua Province. In 1858, Barahona was elevated to the category of municipality. When the province was created in 1881, Barahona was made its head municipality. In 1907, the territorial denominations of cantons and maritime districts were abolished and replaced by the terms communes and provinces, respectively, while Barahona was promoted to this category the same year.

The revolutionary movement known as “El Salvador” was founded in Barahona by Cuban radicals with the purpose of mobilizing financial resources to support the independence movement in Cuba from Spain. Dominican president Ulises Heureaux provided money and weapons to Cuban patriots and from the shores of Barahona, weapons were brought to Cuba.

Between 1916 and 1924, the American presence in the province influenced the planting of cane and the construction of the hacienda. In 1927, the first aviation company of the Caribbean region was started in Barahona. The service was inaugurated between the cities of Barahona, Santa Cruz, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Santo Domingo and Port-au-Prince Haiti.

Climate

Under the Köppen climate classification, Barahona has a tropical wet and dry climate.[6] Temperatures tend to remain steady throughout the year, with mean temperatures ranging from a low of 24.8 °C (76.6 °F) in January to a high of 28.0 °C (82.4 °F) in July.

In terms of dry and wet seasons, Barahona has two distinctive wet seasons with a peak in precipitation from May to June followed by drought-like conditions in July and August (due to the Azores High being located in the central Atlantic, inhibiting the formation of clouds and rain) and another peak in precipitation from September to October. This precipitation pattern is due to the movement and the position of the Azores high throughout the year. The dry season mainly runs through December to April. Even in the drier months, precipitation can still occur with February receiving just under 30 mm (1.2 in). Sunshine is abundant throughout the year, averaging over 3200 hours.

December 24, 2025. Yesterday left Bonao, Dominican Republic to the next city I heard in the Dominican Republic called Barahona. Took two buses, first the owner of the apartment in Bonao stayed with the Bible and will be reading it, as the Holy Spirit confirmed that she is of salvation. She left me at the bus stop concerned that I was not going to have people to celebrate the Holidays with, but truth be told the Holy Spirit has spoken to me about these holidays and they are not Christian, but it is an understanding the Holy Spirit gives. If people are going to celebrate something with this Holiday people call Christmas is in Luke 2:11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! There are many debates as to when the Lord was born, but the Holy Spirit will say if asked, we have access to the Lord. I left Bonao around 9 AM and arrived to Barahona close to 5 PM. On the buses and the bus stops the Good News of Jesus was given, as we read it in John 14:6 and Romans 10:9-15, with a young woman on the first bus accepting Jesus as her Lord and Savior and on the second bus a young lady had some questions and the Holy Spirit in me answered them.

When arriving to the place the mother of the young woman and another woman that said she is a pastor of a predominant denomination called Pentecostals of the sanctified doctrine, that do not wear makeup, or pants or accessories greeted me. The woman who said is a pastor took me together with two young people to the supermarket where the Holy Spirit had me give the Good News of Jesus in paper and out loud, as HE led. The woman and the young people took me back to the room. The people from that denomination are usually very rough, very condemning, judgmental, they are teachers of the law, when they evangelize in the street they do it with speakers and talk more about hell and the devil than about the Good News of Jesus, that is why the Holy Spirit rases people that answer the Great Commission with HIS fruits and gifts, as we read in Galatians 5, Romans 12, Ephesians 4, 1 Corinthians 12, 13 and 14. The Lord when HE was a man dealt with them here and they were very challenged by the Holy Spirit and we have them here now. Teachers of the law pup up, some do get to have an encounter with the Holy Spirit after prayer and speaking just as Nicodemos did with Jesus. They do not have the Holy Spirit so they don’t recognize the Holy Spirit. The mother was open to prayer and felt the Holy Spirit as she was prayed for and so did the daughter who mentioned she liked my energy. I heard she will come to Jesus too.

Today woke up, listened to the Bible, ate some of the things that were bought yesterday with the offerings sent by many of the brothers and sisters that I was led to ask, went downstairs and was led to pray with the mother, there was a man at their clothing store who was very convicted by the message on the paper, started saying that everything is digital now, that no one reads papers and I prayed that he has an encounter with the Holy Spirit, he offered to take me to the place to make copies of the paper, but I forgot to take the paper to make copies and was led to share the Good News of Jesus out loud in the store where he dropped me off very quiet, he did not say anything else on the way and when he dropped me off. I was reminded of a man that started contesting with the Holy Spirit in me and I heard he had an encounter with Jesus after. I then was led to go to another major store where I felt the anger and sadness of the Holy Spirit as there were so many people and they all felt very desperate, as it happens a lot for December 24 and 25, and I was led to share the Good News of Jesus and that if there was going to be a celebration is for what the Lord came to do and not about material things. Then a motortaxi young man asked if I needed transportation to which he shared that he has had an encounter with the Holy Spirit and goes out some mornings with a speaker to share about Jesus in a non-condemning way, as he had an encounter with the Lord. I heard to get him lunch and in the restaurant there was a man that needed prayer to be delivered, I was first led to ask if he had received Jesus as his Lord and Savior to which he answered yes, which is very important that people receive Jesus before being delivered or healed as we see in the Bible before people were delivered or healed they had an encounter with Jesus, as the Bible tells us that if they don’t first more demons come, as they do not have the tools which is the Holy Spirit to fight them. Sanctification is also important, as we are Holy Grounds the Holy Spirit can move freely thru us, which sanctification is so fought in the spiritual realm. Sanctification is a way of life, spending time with the Holy Spirit each day, with HIS word, humbling we before HIM and asking HIM to remove anything that is not of HIS and to fill us up with HIS Holy Spirit.

The salon owner back in Bonao and other people in the area sent me messages of missing me and I was led to tell them to keep their eyes on Jesus, to read HIS word in the Bible and that we will be in contact as HE leads.

I was dropped off at the room, being led to pray with the young man before he left, he left very encouraged and said the Lord will do big things in this City. I ate some lunch and got to meet the owner of the apartment as she arrived today, gave her some candies that are usually eaten in these days and she was very thankful. They will allow me to use the washer and the kitchen, which is the Holy Spirit’s doing, as in the application listing it says that the only access is the room and the bathroom in it. The Lord will do it, all for the souls in the Great Commission. Thankful for those who are praying for both my daughter and I, who have also been of monetary support for the Lord’s kingdom to come and will to be done, in Jesus’s name. Amen.
