Reading from the book of Isaiah…

September 22,2025. Today woke up after resting body and soul yesterday and Saturday. I have been getting refilled by the Holy Spirit more and more, understanding from the Holy Spirit and healing with HIM and the parts of HIS body that HE has moved to give a word and or be of encouragement. Thanking each person together with the Lord who has taken the time and being obedient to give the word and support needed. I will leave the link for rest at the bottom of this post. Friday I was led to go to the local precinct where people are incarcerated and give out the Good News of Jesus paper there and where ever the Holy Spirit led to stop. After going to the precinct and not being able to see the incarcerated; I was told by some locals that it made sense they did not let me see the incarcerated who were waiting sometimes for a long time to be transferred to a jail, as there is a lot going on there which made sense of why the Holy Spirit would send me there first, being reminded of Romans 5:20-21: “God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

The Lord has ways of answering prayers by sending HIS people to fill the place with HIS Holy Spirit so that who ever is going to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior could be part of the change, as situations permanently get better or change only with repenting and proclaiming Jesus as the Lord and Savior and if there is no repentance the consequences from the Lord come, just as we read in the book of Isaiah(take the time to read or re-read the scriptures mentioned here and see how the Holy Spirit speaks to you) with Babylon, Assyria, Philistine, and Moab:

Philistine: Isaiah 14: 28-32

Who Were the Philistines? | Live Science

The term “Philistine” has two main meanings: historically, it refers to the ancient people who settled on the coast of Canaan in the Iron Age, often portrayed as enemies of the Israelites in the Bible. Secondarily, “Philistine” is a derogatory term for a person indifferent or hostile to art, culture, and intellectual pursuits, a meaning that evolved from a 17th-century German student slang for unenlightened townspeople and was later popularized by writers like Matthew Arnold.

The Ancient Philistines

  • Origin: The Philistines were an ancient people of the Southern Levant, likely of Aegean origin, who settled in the city-states along the southern coast of Canaan.
  • Biblical Portrayal: They were frequently depicted in the Hebrew Bible as antagonists to the ancient Israelites, leading to a negative image of them as a crude, warlike people.
  • Historical Significance: They were an important cultural force in the region, leaving behind distinct archaeological evidence such as unique pottery and architectural styles.

“Philistine” as a Derogatory Term

  • Origin of the Term: The modern, derogatory sense of “Philistine” originated in 17th-century German university towns.
  • Student Slang: Students used “Philister” (the German equivalent of “Philistine”) to contemptuously refer to townspeople they considered unenlightened and hostile to education.
  • Evolution of Meaning: This term gained traction in English during the 19th century, becoming a byword for any materialistic person with an indifferent or hostile attitude toward art, beauty, spirituality, and intellect.
  • Popularization: Writers such as Thomas Carlyle and Matthew Arnold helped popularize the term in English to describe members of the middle class who lacked appreciation for higher culture.

Moab: Isaiah 15

n the Bible, Moab was a nation, land, and ancestor descended from Lot and his eldest daughter after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Located east of the Dead Sea, the Moabites were often in conflict with the Israelites, seen as a cautionary example of sinful worship and pride. However, Moab also produced figures like Ruth, David’s great-grandmother, showing a complex, sometimes friendly relationship with Israel.

Origin and Ancestry

  • The nation of Moab was founded by Moab, the son of Lot and his oldest daughter.
  • This incestuous birth after Lot’s daughters survived the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah is recounted in Genesis 19.
  • The name “Moab” is sometimes interpreted as meaning “he is of my father” to remember his origins.

Relationship with Israel

  • Conflict: Moab was often an enemy of Israel, with stories in the books of Numbers, Judges, and Kings detailing battles and oppressive rule by Moabite kings like Eglon and Mesha.
  • Sin and Judgment: Moab’s worship of false gods (like the god Chemosh) and their moral corruption were frequently condemned by prophets and seen as a reason for God’s judgment against them.
  • Kinship: Despite the conflicts, Moab was historically close to Israel, sharing kinship and a related language, which contributed to both rivalry and complex interactions.

Notable Figures and Events

  • Ruth: A Moabite woman who showed loyalty to her Israelite family and God, and ultimately became the great-grandmother of King David.
  • Mesha Stele: An ancient Moabite inscription from the 9th century BC, found in Jordan and now in the Louvre Museum, detailing King Mesha’s rebellion against Israel.
  • Prophetic Condemnation:Prophets like Jeremiah and Isaiah used Moab as a cautionary tale of divine judgment.

Historical Context

  • The kingdom of Moab emerged around the 9th century BCE and lasted for a few centuries.
  • The biblical Moab was located in the mountainous territory east of the Dead Sea, in what is now modern-day Jordan.
  • After the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians, the territory of Moab became part of the Babylonian and Persian empires, and eventually disappeared as a distinct entity.
